The 9th Annual Cruise Party at The Houston Design Center Draws Record Crowd

May 12, 2014 – Houston TX – The Houston Design Center and co-presenter Houston Design Resources Magazine held the 9th Annual Cruise Party and Open House on Wednesday May 7th $5,000 was raised to benefit the ASID Texas Gulf Coast Chapter Student Scholarship Fund.

Over 550 invited guests enjoyed showroom tours and registered to win prizes including a stay at a luxurious  vacation home in Costa Rica. The La Casa Tropical Vacation Home was generously donated by HRG  Properties and Rentals.

The Cruise Party featured a lively passport game for guests. Thirty-four showrooms each represented a different Port of Call, complete with sumptuous international fare, winning wines of ZONIN, Caribbean Cocktails by Brugal Rum, Deep Eddy Vodka and Circulo Tequila. Guests who had the “passport” stamped at every Port of Call were included in the drawing for the Grand Prize at the end of the evening.

Ernie Manouse from Houston PBS presided over the awards presentation which included the passport  drawing. Congratulations to Sarah Shrake who won the Grand Prize – a stay at a luxurious vacation home in  Costa Rica at La Casa Tropical – presented by Amy and Jim Hardy from The Houston Design Center.

Other prizes included a special night on the town at Uptown’s Royal Sonesta Hotel with a weekend VIP use of  an Audi from Audi Central Houston (won by Crystal Reeves, ASID), a designer ceiling fan from HAIKU  presented by Debra Sabrsula, President, ASID/TGCC (won by Ashton Morgan), a promotional package from  The Red Vault presented by Ashely Seals (won by Alina Chea), a pair of Legrand speakers presented by Amy Collier, a $500 gift certificate from For All Occasions presented by Tammie Jacob, an aquarium from Fish Gallery and a Deep Eddy Gift Basket won by Rex Spencer, ASID.

Judges voted on Best Ports of Call and those winners included: Best Bites – Veracruz at Durango Doors, Bombay at Dauphin Sales, Cape Town at Thorntree Slate & Marble and Hamburg at Kitchen & Bath Concepts; Best Signature Drinks – Cayman Islands at Dauphin Sales, Playa del Carmen at Cronan & Associates, Puerto Vallarta at Fixtures & Fittings; Best Décor – Venice at Design House, Inc. and Cape Town at Thorntree Slate & Marble; Best Entertainment – Monaco  at Teri Pugh Studio and, Best Theme – Hong Kong at Manchester Carpet, South Beach at Anything But Plain and Honolulu at Exclusive Garage.

The People’s Choice for Best Port of Call was awarded to Venice at Design House, Inc. and Hamburg at Kitchen & Bath Concepts.
