Houston Design Center Welcomes Design Notables To Spring Market April 7th

Wednesday March 11th, 2015 – The Houston Design Center (7026 Old Katy Rd.) will welcome three design luminaries to the annual Spring Market Tuesday April 7, 2015. Interior designers, Rachel Ashwell, Jan Showers and Barbara Westbrook will all participate in a Keynote panel discussion at 11AM in the Alkusari Stone Showroom Showroom 229 followed by signings of their respective recently released books. The panel will be moderated by Heritage Texas Properties President & CEO, Robin K. Mueck.

RACHEL ASHWELL THE WORLD OF SHABBY CHIC: BEAUTIFUL HOMES, MY STORY & VISION is Rachel Ashwell’s 9th book and a celebratory look back at 25 years of the inspirations, the joys and tears, the life lessons, and the found treasures that have made up her journey in pioneering the now-iconic Shabby Chic aesthetic. The essence of Shabby Chic is a timeless, romantic, and charming interior filled with beautifully worn and well-loved objects, a palette of pales and the promise of enveloping comfort.

Rachel Ashwell is the creator of the Shabby Chic brand and line of stores. She lives in a rambling Shabby Chic home in Brentwood and travels frequently between New York, London and her much-loved B&B, The Prairie by Rachel Ashwell in  Round Top, Texas.

In GLAMOROUS RETREATS BY JAN SHOWERS,  the celebrated interior designer offers an inside look at the luxurious interiors she creates in vacation locales across North America and the Caribbean, from the mountains of Colorado, to the beaches of Florida and the Bahamas, and to the ranches of Arizona and Texas.

Jan Showers of Dallas, Texas, is one of the world’s most fashionable interior designers. Her furniture collection is available in showrooms throughout the United States. The glamorous homes she has designed have landed her spots on “Top One Hundred Designers” lists as well as coverage in major interior design and architectural magazines.

Barbara Westbrook has been designing classically inspired homes full of Southern charm and a European touch for over twenty years. With a design vocabulary that ranges from casual American to formal English to French modern, all of her work shares a welcoming elegance, whether it’s a country cottage or a penthouse apartment. In this, her first book, BARBARA WESTBROOK: GRACIOUS ROOMS, she sets out her principles for creating a house with both polish and patina—Make it interesting. Make it beautiful. Make it personal. Make it welcoming and warm.

Barbara Westbrook launched Atlanta-based interiors design firm Westbrook Interiors in 1992 after designing under the tutelage of Southern greats Nancy Braithwaite and Gandy-Peace. Her projects—vacation homes, showhouses, large-scale renovations, spas, and professional offices—have been widely published in magazines such as Metropolitan Home, Architectural Digest, Southern Accents, Traditional Home, House Beautiful, Garden & Gun, Better Homes & Gardens, Florida Design, and Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles.
