Houston Design Center Welcomes Design Notables To Fall Market Oct 13

The Houston Design Center (7026 Old Katy Rd.) will welcome two design luminaries to the annual Fall Market Tuesday October 13, 2015. Interior designers, Phoebe “Mrs.” Howard and Timothy Whealon  will all participate in a Keynote panel discussion at 11AM in the Alkusari Stone Showroom Ste 229 followed by signings of their respective recently released books. The panel will be moderated by Heritage Texas Properties Chairman & CEO, Robin K. Mueck.

Phoebe Howard opened her first store, Mrs. Howard, in Jacksonville, Florida, 20 years ago and now has stores in Georgia and North Carolina as well. Howard’s work has appeared in ELLE DECOR, House Beautiful, Southern Accents, InStyle, and the New York Times. Howard divides her time between Florida and Georgia.

Mrs. Howard, Room by Room is the follow-up to Phoebe Howard’s critically acclaimed Joy of Decorating and takes readers even deeper into the design process, revealing the seemingly small but essential tips and tricks that will help them imbue their own homes with Mrs. Howard’s celebrated Southern style and taste.

Timothy Whealon is beloved for his accessible style, his seamless blend of classic and modern influences, and his skillful use of artwork and antiques, all thanks to an extensive knowledge of fine and  decorative arts. Whealon’s design philosophy is rooted in classicism, however he approaches each project with a fresh, twenty-first-century eye that makes it both modern and timeless. With a European’s reverence for history, a New Yorker’s need to stay on the cutting edge, and a Midwesterner’s sense of practicality, Whealon strives to create rooms that have a sense of harmony and comfort. Whealon doesn’t believe in interiors that look “decorated,” as if everything has been done at once. Rather, he layers items from different periods and cultures, artfully mixing the high and low.

IN PURSUIT OF BEAUTY is the first book to showcase Whealon’s interiors, from an airy New York penthouse to a gracious Mediterranean-style villa, to a casual beach cottage. Whether urban or rural, grand or intimate, each project exhibits classicism alongside comfort, careful attention to detail, and undeniable appeal. Many of the projects included have been newly photographed for this book, and each is a testament to Whealon’s exquisite taste and understanding of how people live today.
